You can study Dutch at your own pace and on your own schedule. The A0–A1 e-learning course consists of 16 modules, each containing 4–5 video lessons. At the end of each module, you can take an online test as many times as needed. Once you achieve a score of 75% or higher, you can continue to the next module. After Modules 8 and 16, there are online exams. Upon passing these exams with a score of at least 75%, you will be eligible to receive a certificate.
The first part of the course (Modules 1–8) starts with the Dutch alphabet and pronunciation. You will then learn greetings, sentence structure, and how to ask questions. Grammar topics include verb conjugation, numbers, prepositions, articles, and plural forms. You will also begin practising everyday conversations, such as introducing yourself. Topics include shopping at the market, visiting the supermarket, and vocabulary related to the home and its surroundings. The future tense is introduced as well.
The second part of the course (Modules 9–16) begins with introducing family members. You will then explore topics such as household tasks, preparing food, working and workplace conversations, professions, daily activities, and shopping. You will also learn about Dutch traditions and culture, including the use of the word “lekker”, Dutch coffee breaks, and the birthday calendar tradition.
Grammar topics in this part of the course include prepositions, possessive pronouns, modal verbs, the “aan het” construction, separable verbs, adjectives, demonstrative pronouns, and negation (“niet” and “geen”).
