Let's talkYou will receive two textbooks for this level (A0–A1) by post, included in the course price. In addition, you will gain access to our Edu-Dutch Academy e-learning platform, which contains more than 70 video lessons and 100 multimedia exercises that complement the course books. This combination provides an effective and engaging way to learn and retain new vocabulary, review grammar explanations, and build the confidence to start speaking Dutch.
During the lessons with your teacher, you will practise all language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The lessons focus on applying and reinforcing the material you have prepared beforehand.
The first part of the course (Modules 1–8) starts with the Dutch alphabet and pronunciation. You will then learn greetings, sentence structure, and how to ask questions. The grammar topics include verb conjugation, numbers, prepositions, articles, and plurals. You will also begin practising everyday conversations, such as introducing yourself. Other topics include shopping at the market and supermarket, vocabulary related to the home and surroundings, and an introduction to the future tense.
The second part of the course (Modules 9–16) begins with learning how to talk about family members. You will then explore topics such as household tasks, preparing food, working and communicating in the workplace, professions, daily activities, and shopping. You will also discover aspects of Dutch culture and traditions, including the use of the word lekker, Dutch coffee breaks, and the Dutch birthday calendar tradition.
In terms of grammar, you will learn about prepositions, possessive pronouns, modal verbs, the aan het construction, separable verbs, adjectives, demonstrative pronouns, and negation (niet and geen). The future tense is covered in greater detail, and you will also be introduced to the present perfect tense (voltooid tegenwoordige tijd).

After successfully completing this course, you can continue your Dutch studies with the A1–A2 course.
On the e-learning platform, you will find 16 modules that correspond to the course books. These modules include additional video lessons with grammar explanations as well as interactive exercises to help you practise and reinforce what you have learned. Access to the platform is provided for 6 months. If you continue with the next course level, your access will be extended.
The e-learning platform also includes the audio recordings that accompany the course books, as well as the answer keys for the book exercises.
In addition to the 15 hours of live instruction with your teacher, you should expect to spend approximately 30–40 hours on self-study throughout the course.
With the Academy Edu-Dutch platform, you can learn Dutch independently, wherever and whenever it suits you.

The platform is designed to help you learn Dutch faster and more effectively, while reinforcing what you learn during your lessons.
On average, you will spend approximately 30 hours on self-study throughout the course. We recommend setting aside at least 4–5 hours per week to learn and practise Dutch.
The more time you invest in studying, completing assignments, and practising the language, the better your results will be and the faster your progress will be.
On the Academy Edu-Dutch platform, you can take a test after each module. A score of 75% or higher is required to pass. In total, there are 16 module tests.
After completing the final module (Module 8 of Part 1 and Module 16 of Part 2), you can take an online final exam. If you achieve a score of 75% or higher, you will pass the exam and be able to download a certificate from the platform confirming the level you have achieved.
